Me Starting To Be A Minimalist
23 April 2020, Thursday
On my current state right now I am enjoying making things simple. I just have a thought in my mind that the previous generations thought that more is good but it is the exact opposite. Before, I tend to buy things so that I have many options to choose. As I grow up, I realized that choosing the one’s with the best quality considering your current budget offers a greater value in the long run than settling for cheap alternative. It feels lighter for having that one choice and somehow narrow down the space on my mind to make way for new information.
So here are my top 5 things in which you could start on applying minimalist ideas
1 | Clothes
If you are a tech guy like me it would be easier to dress up. I just stay with black or gray t-shirt with a long sleeve on top. Do you still wear the clothes your using during your school days? Well, maybe you could try to consider to filter them out. So, what you need to do is just put out all of these clothes outside your closet and filter them one by one. Like Marie Kondo taught us, choose which one sparks joy and what’s not. And then I keep the one’s that sparks joy and the rest, I just sent it to my province so that I could still use them when I got to take a vacation. Trust me if all your clothes sparks joy, then it will affect your confidence and productivity as a whole.
2 | Your Skincare Products
Well this is a hard one because skincare is life and we like to test new products or we maybe we just want to experiment with it. 😂😂😂 haha. For me, I maintain two categories. By the way I have an acne prone skin. So, the first category is my skincare when I have a pimple and the other one is for nourishing when I am pimple free. If I want to try a new product, then I make sure that it should be the next in line and I just test it for a week or two. For example, I am trying a new facial wash then, if it is effective then I will stick on it and if its not, I use it in my body instead after my two week trial period. 🤣
3 | Old Home Stuffs
Yep, you are right. Did you feel the shift on our technology? Comparing it to the last decade, I use encyclopedia instead of google in doing my assignments. I am playing with toys instead of video games. Have you stocked up your old TV somewhere? You get the point? Maybe you could consider letting these stuffs away. Our family also considered repainting our house with two shades of gray and it dramatically improve the ambiance living at our place. 😊
4 | Stuffs that is not working
Before, I wanted to buy many wired headset and I stocked up a lot. There’s one with microphone. There’s one with high quality sound. I’ve been there. The wire got damaged and only one piece is working. haha. The tendency is you will keep that somewhere just to have a spare. The thing is I tried using an Airpods and up until now I just have these pairs.
5 | Thinking before buying
Have you think twice or thrice before buying that stuff? Are you just stressed and that’s the reason why you accidentally buy that stuff? Sometimes, we are driven by emotions that is why we keep on making wrong decisions and that is why things are piling up because we did not make the right choice. The best thing to do is to try not to buy that stuff the day you saw it. Keep it in your mind for a week or if you can, then a month. Think if you really need that item. Or ask the question, are you willing to give up the old one once you buy that new stuff? Asking these questions and by making a time to think might help you make the right choice. If after that time, you think that you need that stuff then go for it.
“How to pick and choose what matters to you and what does not matter to you based on finely honed personal values is perhaps the most worthy struggle one can undertake in one’s life”
